Bitsgap Smart Orders Explained 2026: Advanced Order Types

Complete guide to Bitsgap smart orders in 2026: trailing stop, bracket orders, TWAP, scaled orders — what each does, when to use it, and setup instructions.

Exchange-native order interfaces are limited — most offer market, limit, and stop orders. Bitsgap’s trading terminal extends this with smart order types that aren’t available directly on most exchanges: trailing stops, bracket orders, TWAP, and scaled orders. Unlimited smart orders are included in all Bitsgap plans.

What Are Smart Orders?

Smart orders are order types that Bitsgap executes via its cloud infrastructure on behalf of your exchange account. Because exchanges themselves don’t natively support types like “trailing stop” or “bracket order,” Bitsgap’s server monitors the conditions and places the underlying limit/market orders on your exchange when triggered.

All smart orders are unlimited on all Bitsgap plans — they’re not counted against bot limits.

Trailing Stop Order

A trailing stop follows price upward and triggers a sell when price reverses by a configured percentage.

How it works:

  • You hold a BTC position at $65,000
  • You set a trailing stop with 3% trail
  • BTC rises to $70,000 — the trailing stop follows, now set at $67,900 (3% below $70,000)
  • BTC drops to $67,900 — the sell order executes
  • If BTC had kept rising to $80,000 before dropping, the stop would have followed to $77,600

Why it’s better than a fixed take-profit: A fixed take-profit closes at your target price, potentially missing a larger move. A trailing stop follows the move up and only exits on reversal — capturing extended trends while protecting profits.

Best use cases:

  • Holding a position during a strong uptrend that may continue beyond your initial target
  • Replacing manual “move my stop up” management
  • Bot positions entering profitable territory where you want to capture the full move

Configuration:

  • Open Trading Terminal → Smart Trade
  • Select your exchange and pair
  • Set entry (market or limit)
  • Enable Trailing Take-Profit
  • Set trail percentage (1% for tight protection, 3–5% for more breathing room)

Bracket Order (Stop-Loss + Take-Profit Combined)

A bracket order places both a take-profit and stop-loss simultaneously when you enter a position. When one side fills, the other cancels automatically (OCO — one-cancels-other).

Why this matters: On most exchange interfaces, you’d need to manually place and manage two separate orders. If the take-profit fills and you forget to cancel the stop-loss, you have a rogue order. Bracket orders eliminate this risk.

Configuration:

  • Set entry price (market or limit)
  • Set take-profit percentage (e.g., 5% above entry)
  • Set stop-loss percentage (e.g., 3% below entry)
  • Bitsgap manages both orders; the unfilled one auto-cancels when the other fills

TWAP Orders (Time-Weighted Average Price)

TWAP breaks a large order into smaller slices executed at regular time intervals, reducing market impact.

When to use TWAP:

  • You want to buy $10,000 of BTC without moving the market with a single large order
  • You want to accumulate a position gradually over 4–12 hours
  • You’re dollar-cost averaging on a manual basis over a session rather than over weeks

Configuration:

  • Set total order size ($)
  • Set duration (e.g., 4 hours)
  • Set number of slices (e.g., 8 slices = one order every 30 minutes)
  • Bitsgap executes a market order of (total size ÷ slices) at each interval

TWAP is particularly useful for less liquid pairs where a single large market order would spike price significantly.

Scaled Orders

Scaled orders place multiple limit orders at different price levels within a defined range, spreading your buy (or sell) across several price points.

Example:

  • You want to buy $2,000 of ETH
  • You set a scaled order from $3,400 to $3,600 with 5 orders
  • Bitsgap places: $400 at $3,400, $400 at $3,450, $400 at $3,500, $400 at $3,550, $400 at $3,600
  • As price moves through these levels, your position accumulates at the average of executed levels

Why this is useful:

  • Better average entry than a single market order during a volatile decline
  • Less aggressive than DCA bots (one-time deployment, not continuous cycling)
  • Flexible for both entry and exit

Conditional Orders

Bitsgap also supports trigger-based order execution — set a condition (“when BTC price crosses $68,000, execute this order”). The bot monitors the condition and fires the order automatically when it’s met.

Use cases:

  • Breakout entry: Buy when price closes above a resistance level
  • Breakdown protection: Sell if price drops below a support level
  • Reentry after stop: Rebuy if price recovers above your stop-loss level

Smart Orders vs Bot Strategies

Smart orders are for manual traders who want advanced order management on individual trades. Bots (GRID, DCA, BTD, COMBO) are for automated strategies that run continuously.

The two are complementary. You can run GRID bots on 3 pairs simultaneously while also having a trailing stop on a manual ETH position in the same Bitsgap account.

For traders who prefer manual trading with professional order management, Bitsgap’s smart orders provide exchange-quality tools that most retail traders only get from institutional platforms.

Why Bitsgap Pairs with Coinbase Advanced

Coinbase Advanced’s order interface is already good for manual trading, but lacks smart order types like trailing stops and bracket orders. Bitsgap adds these capabilities on top of Coinbase Advanced’s deep BTC/USD liquidity.

FAQ

Are smart orders available on all Bitsgap plans?

Yes — unlimited smart orders are included in all plans, including the 7-day Pro trial.

Do smart orders run in the cloud?

Yes. Bitsgap’s servers monitor the conditions and execute orders 24/7, even when your computer is off.

What’s the difference between a trailing stop and a regular stop-loss?

A regular stop-loss is fixed — it executes when price drops to a set level. A trailing stop moves up as price rises, only executing when price reverses from the peak by your trail percentage.

Can I use smart orders on all supported exchanges?

Most smart order types are available across all 17+ connected exchanges. Some advanced types may have exchange-specific limitations — check Bitsgap’s documentation for your specific exchange.

Is there a limit on how many smart orders I can have active?

No — smart orders are unlimited on all Bitsgap plans.
