Setting up Stoic.ai on Coinbase Advanced takes under 15 minutes for most users. The process involves creating a Stoic account, generating API keys on Coinbase Advanced with the correct permissions, and telling Stoic how much portfolio it should manage. After that, the bot runs autonomously — no daily attention required.

Stoic.ai
Hands-off AI portfolio trading on Coinbase, Binance, and major exchanges. Quantitative strategies built by Cindicator. Used by 18,000+ investors.
What You Need Before Starting
- A funded Coinbase Advanced account (formerly Coinbase Pro) — if you don’t have one yet, get started below
- A Stoic.ai account (sign up at stoic.ai)
- Your portfolio amount decision made — this determines your fee tier (see Stoic.ai Fee Breakdown 2026 if you need help with this)
The practical minimum is whatever funds you plan for Stoic to manage. Stoic works at any amount, but the fee math works best at $30,000+.
Recommended exchange
Coinbase Advanced
Up to 3.85% USDC rewards on trading balance, low maker/taker fees, and full Coinbase Advanced toolset.
Step 1: Fund Your Coinbase Advanced Account
If your funds are already on Coinbase or Coinbase Advanced, skip this step.
If you’re transferring from another exchange or from a bank account:
- Log in to Coinbase, go to Coinbase Advanced
- Use the Portfolio tab to deposit fiat or transfer crypto from your Coinbase wallet
- Wait for settlement (ACH takes 1–5 business days; wire transfers are faster)
Stoic trades primarily in BTC, ETH, and major large-cap cryptos. Having USDT or USDC on your account is fine — Stoic will deploy the capital.
Step 2: Create a Coinbase Advanced API Key
This is the key step. An API key allows Stoic to execute trades on your behalf without you logging in each time.
- In Coinbase Advanced, go to Settings → API
- Click New API Key
- Under permissions, enable: View and Trade — do NOT enable Transfer or Withdrawal permissions. Stoic does not need them, and excluding them prevents Stoic from ever moving funds off your exchange.
- Set a Portfolio if you want to isolate Stoic’s managed funds from other Coinbase holdings (optional but recommended)
- Complete 2FA verification to confirm key creation
- Copy both the API Key and API Secret immediately — the secret is shown only once
Step 3: Connect Stoic to Your Coinbase Account
- Log in to Stoic.ai
- Go to Connect Exchange → Coinbase Advanced
- Paste in your API Key and API Secret from Step 2
- Click Verify Connection — Stoic will test the API key with a read-only call to confirm it works
- If the connection succeeds, you’ll see your Coinbase Advanced account balance populated in the Stoic dashboard
If the connection fails, double-check that you copied both the key and secret correctly and that Trade permissions are enabled on the key.
Step 4: Set Your Portfolio Size
Stoic asks you to specify how much of your Coinbase balance it should manage.
The fee tier calculation happens here:
- Up to $3,500: $9/month flat ($108/year)
- $3,500–$10,000: $25/month flat ($300/year)
- Above $10,000: 5% of managed portfolio annually
If you set a managed amount that exceeds what’s in your account, Stoic will flag this before proceeding.
Recommendation: if you’re new to Stoic, consider starting with a portion of your portfolio — 50–70% — while keeping 30–50% in stablecoins or unmanaged. After observing one full market cycle, you can increase the managed allocation with more confidence.
Step 5: Review and Pay the Annual Fee
Stoic charges its fee upfront annually. For amounts above $10,000, the 5% fee is paid in crypto (USDT or equivalent). For the flat-tier plans, payment accepts credit/debit cards as well.
After payment, Stoic activates and begins its first evaluation cycle. Within 24 hours, you should see trading activity in your Coinbase Advanced trade history.
Step 6: Verify the Connection Is Active
- Log in to Stoic.ai and confirm the dashboard shows your connected exchange and portfolio value
- Log in to Coinbase Advanced and check the API section — the key should show recent activity
- Within 24–48 hours, check your Coinbase Advanced trade history for the first Stoic-executed transactions
What Happens After Setup
Stoic runs daily rebalancing cycles without requiring your input. The algorithm:
- Evaluates current positions against the Meta strategy’s signal weights
- Executes buy or sell orders to align with the target allocation
- Adjusts position sizes based on updated volatility metrics
You don’t need to do anything. Checking the Stoic dashboard once a week or month is sufficient to confirm the bot is active and see performance summaries.
Security Best Practices
- Store your API key and secret in a password manager (not in a spreadsheet or plain text file)
- Do not share your API credentials with anyone
- Periodically review Coinbase Advanced’s API key settings to confirm Stoic’s key is still active and permissions haven’t changed
- If you suspect a key compromise, revoke it immediately in Coinbase Advanced settings and generate a new one
Track BTC Direction While Stoic Runs
Even with fully automated management, many Stoic users like to maintain macro context. The free crypto prediction tool provides daily AI-generated BTC directional signals — useful for context on whether your portfolio is operating in a favorable or unfavorable macro environment.
